Catherine Brumley Mezera serves as the point-of-contact for undergraduate extended learning programs, including the online summer school classes. She manages online student enrollment in the Advertising and Public Relations minors, reviews and updates course material in eCampus, coordinates faculty and student communication, and promotes the extended learning program nationwide.
In addition, Mezera teaches the courses at the School of Journalism, including the principles of advertising, copywriting and retail advertising. She is the faculty sponsor of the WVU Chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) Ad Club and manages student entries in numerous advertising and design-related competitions. She received the national AAF chapter growth award in 2008 for a 200% increase in membership at WVU.
Mezera’s background includes creative strategy, copywriting and graphic design for campaigns. Prior to joining the advertising faculty in 2005, Mezera worked in the corporate sector directing all marketing and promotional efforts as a Marketing Communications Manager for a global wireless manufacturer. She was responsible for all communication activities, including press and product releases, advertising placement, public relations, tradeshows, website development and delivery of the company’s first online, digital catalog. She also has experience with the media and newspaper industries, where she served in pre-press production and graphic design positions. Mezera also provides freelance design and marketing consultant services.
She earned both of her degrees from WVU — an undergraduate degree in advertising and a master’s degree in journalism. Her graduate thesis and research focused on loyalty and relationship marketing as part of an integrated marketing communications campaign.
