Kimberly Brown serves as the Alumni and External Relations Coordinator at West Virginia University’s P.I. Reed School of Journalism. Brown assists the Dean in a variety of integrated communication activities, including alumni relations, external communications, marketing, event planning and development.

Serving as the Dean’s Representative, Brown acts as the primary liaison between the School and the School’s Alumni Association. She supervises and coordinates alumni-related events and maintains communications with journalism alumni. Brown is also responsible for developing content and overseeing the design and production of the School’s alumni news magazine.

Brown also coordinates public relations and internal relations activities, including faculty get-togethers, guest lecturers and panels, recognition ceremonies, graduation and donor events. In addition, she assists in planning the Dean’s visits to media outlets and media-related organizations throughout the state and region.

Development, production and maintenance of the School’s marketing materials are also part of Brown’s role at the School. She produces and edits content for the School’s publications, recruitment materials and website, as well as the School’s weekly E-News, job postings and press releases.

A native of Fairmont, W.Va., Brown received her bachelor’s degree in secondary English education from WVU’s College of Human Resources and Education. Brown later completed her master’s degree in instructional design and technology education at WVU.

After teaching public school in West Virginia and North Carolina and then working in both the corporate and government environments, Brown returned to the university, joining the School of Journalism staff in July 2006.
