Academic Programs at the School of Journalism
The WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism is one of the oldest and finest journalism programs in the nation. The school is deeply rooted in tradition, but our innovative, student-centered curriculum and state-of-the-art equipment prepare students to be 21st century communicators.
The undergraduate and graduate programs at the School of Journalism emphasize hands-on learning, professional ethics and social responsibility in the study of mass communications and society.
The School of Journalism also offers a variety of summer school classes and online programs to both major and non-major students.
Degree Programs in the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism
In the Broadcast News sequence, students learn how to report, write and produce news stories and programs for the electronic media using state-of-the-art digital equipment and technology. Students produce a bi-weekly newscast, “WVU News,” that airs statewide on West Virginia Public Television. The News-Editorial major ensures that students know how to write, report, edit and design for newspapers and other print publications. Students gain real-world experience through internships throughout the state and region. The Public Relations major offers challenging opportunities to develop media campaigns and plan events for nonprofit organizations and private firms. While focusing on public relations, students also receive a solid education in writing, research, interviewing skills and media analysis. The P.I.
