“Internships teach you to be on top of your game when you are working with adults and allow you to show your true talents.”

Where did you intern on your winter break?
I worked at Enterprise Community Partners, Columbia, Md., from Dec. 17-21 and Jan. 3-9. It was a continuation of a summer internship.

What was the most important lesson you learned during the winter break internship?
I learned was the importance of teamwork and staying on top of current world issues to further my journalistic point of view.

What other aspects of the internship do you think will serve you well later in the job market?
I think the practice in technical writing, as well as learning more about Web design, will be beneficial to me this semester as I move forward in my PR curriculum.

What was a typical day was like during your winter break internship?
A typical day involved a morning staff meeting, then group meetings, followed by focus groups to brainstorm. The rest of the day included working on projects and research.

What advice would you give an SOJ student interested in pursuing an internship during their winter break?
I would tell them that although it may only be for a short period of time, any work experience is truly beneficial to furthering your skills and honing them in a real-world setting.

How did the School of Journalism prepare you to succeed in your winter break internship?
The SOJ prepared me with technical knowledge through my academic courses by expanding my horizons in writing, publishing, Web design, etc.

What experiences from the winter break internship will you be able to apply to your work at the School of Journalism?
I will be able to carry the connections I have made in the professional world, as well as the importance of ethics, research and communication in the journalism field.

If given the opportunity, would you do another winter break internship? Why or why not?
I would do another winter break internship because regardless of the time frame, it gives you a sense of the professional world and the expectations that come with working in that field. Internships teach you to be on top of your game when you are working with adults and allow you to show your true talents.
