West Virginia University (WVU) has a rolling admissions policy, which means there is no specific deadline by which you must apply. The application review period for the fall semester begins September 15. Applicants are considered for and informed of admission on a first-come, first-served basis. WVU continues to admit students until the freshman class is full. Students who apply for the fall semester and submit all necessary admission materials by January 1, should receive an admission decision by February 15. In order to be eligible for scholarships from WVU, you must be admitted by February 1.
The Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism (SOJ) uses the same undergraduate admission standards as WVU for pre-journalism students. Visit the WVU admissions website for details on general WVU admission. Please indicate on your WVU application that you are seeking an SOJ major. For freshmen seeking to change majors to the SOJ, please call the WVU Office of Admissions and Records at 304-293-2124.
Pre-journalism or general studies students at WVU who wish to major in an SOJ program apply to the SOJ while enrolled in JRL 215 and must meet the specific criteria for admission. Please see our Admissions page for specific details.
