Jerenie Sands

Jerenie is a senior journalism student at West Virginia University from Parkersburg, West Virginia. During Jerenie’s time at WVU, she has been a part of the Daily Athenaeum, WVU’s independent student newspaper, for two years. Jerenie is set to graduate from the Reed School of Media and Communications in May of 2026. 

Jerenie strives to pursue a career in anchoring or reporting. She is a part-time MMJ at Nexstar-owned WBOY Channel 12 News and worked at Audacy, which covers a range of radio stations in the region. Jerenie serves as the vice president for the Radio Television Digital News Association at WVU and a student ambassador for the College of Creative Arts and Media. 

Beyond her professional life, Jerenie enjoys spending her off days hanging out with her friends and family, taking photos, shopping, and relaxing with her two cats. With a deep passion, Jerenie aspires to anchor in a big city and be a photographer on the side.

Fun Fact: I have two cats named after Taylor Swift songs!
