Nothing Happens the Same Twice

|

We officially made it through Show 2. There were similarities and differences between Shows 1 and 2, and it made me realize that nothing will happen the same twice this semester.

We had some difficulties in the control room on show day, and now I will work with the director and professors to find a way to solve those issues for Show 3. The day started off stressfully. I think some residual negative energy was left in the studio, but we overcame it. I reminded everyone during our post-production meeting that anything that happens outside of that studio stays outside. Inside the studio, we must maintain a positive atmosphere, lift each other up, and respect each other.

I have already identified some things I could do better. I realized I kept forgetting about the copyright after the credits, and it messed with my timing for the credits and the capper. I need to start writing down what time I need to take the copyright by, as well as what time I need to take the capper by. I think if I have it written down in front of me and it’s in my face, I will remember. This is something I struggled with in Show 1 as well, and I need to find a way to button it up for Show 3.

Before the show, while everyone was still working on their packages, I got to go to Snowshoe Resort with the adventure team. This was the first time I really saw any of the reporters in action, and it was interesting to see them in their element. I got to act as an ENG for the day, and I think I made connections with the reporters that I wouldn’t have otherwise had the opportunity to make. It was such a fun experience, though I’m not sure I would do it again. It made me appreciate the work the reporters and ENGs do even more than I already did.

Overall, the Show 2 experience was less stressful than Show 1. I got into a groove with writing the script. I found a timeline that worked well for me where I wrote most of A-Block on Friday night, and on Saturday, I wrote the B-Block, the adventure toss, and the close. Then all I had to do was wait for Andrew to send me his Studio-B script so I could put it in and check all the formatting.

As I mentioned previously, there are things everyone needs to work on, and that starts with me checking on people before they go out into the field and offering feedback throughout the process. As a leader of the team, I need to start taking more initiative in meeting with people and being there to help others. I think I have taken a little bit of a backseat, and I need to start getting more hands-on with the reporters and ENGs. I would also like to start speaking up more in writing conferences and during the production night to give my input and opinion. I think this will be another way I can help the reporters more throughout the semester.
