
Hannah Heiskell
Hannah is a second year, 4+1 grad student pursuing a career in reporting. She graduates in May 2026 with a bachelors and masters degree in journalism. She’s from Morgantown, West Virginia, and has worked as a news reporter and opinion editor for The Daily Athenaeum. While she completes her masters, she also does freelance writing for local magazines, including GoXplore and the Tri-State Business Journal.
Throughout her time at West Virginia University, Hannah has interned and worked with various news organizations. During summer 2024, she completed an internship at the Charleston-Gazette Mail in Charleston, West Virginia, and covered various topics and reports daily. Recently, in the spring and summer of 2025, she covered the distribution of opioid settlement funds in the state with 100 Days in Appalachia. She also began interning with the Student Press Law Center in August 2025.
Fun Fact: My favorite author is Mona Awad! She’s an immensely talented writer and I always finish her books within a week of buying them.
