Jerenie Sands

Jerenie is a senior journalism student at West Virginia University from Parkersburg, West Virginia. During Jerenie’s time at WVU, she has taken the role of Assistant News Editor for the Daily Athenaeum, WVU’s independent student newspaper. Jerenie is set to graduate in May of 2026 from the Reed School of Media and Communications. 

Jerenie strives to pursue a career in anchoring or reporting. She recently completed a summer internship with Nexstar-owned WBOY Channel 12 News and worked at Audacy, which covers a range of radio stations in the region. Jerenie serves as the vice president for the Radio Television Digital News Association at WVU and a student ambassador for the College of Creative Arts and Media. 

Beyond her professional life, Jerenie enjoys spending her off days golfing with her friends and family, taking photos, shopping, and relaxing with her two cats. With a deep passion, Jerenie aspires to anchor in a big city and be a photographer on the side.

Fun Fact: I have two cats named after Taylor Swift songs!
