Rebecca Hempleman

Rebecca Hempleman is a journalism major and professional writing minor at West Virginia University and will be graduating in December of 2025. She writes for the Daily Athenaeum and has been published by different West Virginia papers including the Dominion Post and the Huntington Herald-Dispatch. She covers all types of stories, but enjoys working on those with a focus on arts and culture news the most. After graduating, she would like to write for a news publication covering local news.

She is from Oceanside, California and decided to come to WVU after growing up visiting extended family in the area. She is passionate about telling news stories that would otherwise go overlooked or underrepresented. She hopes to one day move back to San Diego and work for the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Fun Fact: I once inspired a professor of mine to create a writing contest about the pandemic.
