Samantha Smith

Samantha is a senior journalism student at West Virginia University from Pittsburgh, PA. She is graduating in December 2026. During Samantha’s time at WVU, she has held leadership positions with the Daily Athenaeum, WVU’s independent student newspaper, currently serving as the managing editor. Samantha also creates social media content for the newspaper, in addition to covering hard news and sports. 

Additionally, Samantha has participated in the “Pride of West Virginia Mountaineer Marching Band,” where she played trumpet and traveled to New York City to perform in the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She also participated in the “Mountaineer Pep Band,” performing at men’s and women’s basketball games. 

Currently, Samantha is an intern with WDTV in Bridgeport, West Virginia. 

In her free time, Samantha enjoys playing the trumpet and piano, ice skating, traveling, spending time with friends and family and working at BJ’s Wholesale Club as a
