For the third newscast, I did a story on the Beauty and the Beast meet where the wrestling and gymnastics teams compete side by side in the Coliseum. This was a great experience because I got to cover two sports at once. I was able to get a good variety of shots bouncing around from the wrestling match to the different gymnastics events. I got the chance to speak with the head coaches of both teams as well as some of the athletes who all enjoy hosting this event and said it’s good for both of the programs. 

For the second newscast, I did a story on the WVU women’s basketball teams annual Pink Game in honor of breast cancer awareness. The Mountaineers took on Texas Tech. All fans received free admission into the game courtesy of WVU Medicine. The coliseum was filled with fans, coaches, and players wearing pink. The WVU Cancer Institute sold the official WVU athletics “pink” shirt for donations of $10 or more. Chuck-a-ducks were also sold to raise money for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. WVU Medicine raised $2,800 from both promotions. 

For the first newscast, I did a story on the petition going around to change the NBA logo to honor Kobe Bryant. Since the current logo features WVU Men’s Basketball alum Jerry West I focused my story around how Mountaineer players and fans feel about the petition. I enjoyed filming courtside and talking to the players as it was my first time getting to do so at this high of a level. It was interesting hearing their opinions about the petition as they all had a great amount of respect for both West and Bryant. This story helped me build my confidence as the more games I went to, the more comfortable I was with keeping the camera steady and getting the most out of my interviews.
